The effects of silver as an antimicrobial include denaturing all proteins, breaking the cell wall, inhibiting DNA replication and acting as a coagulant, occluding dentinal tubules.
The application of potassium iodide immediately following application of silver fluoride minimizes staining caused by silver diamine fluoride and maintains caries efficacy.
Silver Fluoride / Potassium Iodide should not be placed in contact with dental pulp.
SMART procedure is useful for: minimally invasive dentistry, decreasing procedure time and smart dentists.
