Geriatric Dentistry: The Fastest Growing Demographic in Dentistry
Learning Series Summary:
This learning series is all about customizing the patient experience to the majority of those 55 million Americans currently 65 and older along with a predicted growth to 25% of the US population over the next forty years. The ADA in its demographic data have presented that this age group of patients will be a significant driving force for growth in our practices along with the strong need for advanced dental care. This four module series of courses will demonstrate how this unique group creates unique opportunities from both treatment and business aspects.
MODULE ONE: The Medical Side of Treating Geriatric Patients
Faced with ever-changing medication therapy guidelines, many dental professionals struggle to keep up with the dental implications of systemic medications and, conversely, the systemic implications of dental medications. This is especially true for today’s medically complex geriatric dental patients. This program will provide an overview of systemic medications and dental medications and their potential impact on our geriatric patients. Special emphasis will be given to delivering this essential information in a format which makes it practical and useful for all dental clinicians.
- – Identify the prescription medications most frequently encountered on a geriatric patient’s medical history and discuss their indications for use, adverse reactions, contraindications, drug interactions and potential impact on dental therapy.
- – Discuss the medications most often used in dental practices and explain their potential impact on systemic drug therapy and situations which may preclude their use.
- – Identify prescribing and dental drug administration best practices
This course is the first module within a four-part learning series. Registrants can register for all four modules or individual ones within this series a la carte.
